Berny Parkes - a brief introduction!

         Clerical Officer Barclaycard 1977 – 1979 (NUBE)
         Police Officer 1979 – 1989 (Police Federation)
         Residential Social Worker 1989 – 1992 (NALGO)
         Social Work Student 1992 – 1995 (NUS)
Child Care Social Worker / Manager 1996 – present (Unison)

I am employed as a children’s social worker manager and serve as Chair for the Dorset County Branch of Unison where I have been an activist since the establishment of the branch in 1998.  I have extensive experience of representation and negotiation on behalf of the Branch and its members.

I was born in Liverpool and moved to Dorset in 1998. I'm married, have 2 children (both girls) & 3 grandchildren.
It is my experience, as a public service worker and a union activist, that informs my firm belief that in these times of austerity it is the responsibility of the Trade Union Movement to be at the forefront of fighting for and defending members.

Please don't hesitate if you would like to ask me questions on my views or my life.
